NO BAKE CHOCOLATE OAT BARS

Image
When I was pregnant, I craved sweets. Not like candy bars, but baked goods. Think cakes, cookies, muffins, things of that nature. The only problem was I was pregnant through the summer, and we didn’t have air conditioning. My husband didn’t appreciate coming home from a hot day at work to sit in a house that I heated up by running the oven for hours. I didn’t really enjoy it much either, but I wanted those baked goodies and I was willing to deal with the heat to get them. After one particularly hot and long baking session, my sister came over for a visit. When she walked into the house, she turned around and walked right back outside. “What on Earth are you doing in there!” Is all she said. When I told her about my cravings she said, “Haven’t you ever heard of no-bake?” Oh my gosh. Pregnancy brain. I had forgotten all about those kinds of sweets. I instantly took this recipe for peanut butter and chocolate bars off of NeighborFood to make the next time they need for something like that...

Clearly. I like all kinds of cuisines, vegetables, fruits, desserts, and proteins. While I talk a big chicken game, I have a deep, unabiding love for all things beef. Sit me at a table and give me a big steak. I am not, nor have I ever been, ashamed to eat the entire thing in front of any date, girlfriend, family member, or child. The only thing I ask is that you don’t a) ask for a bit...

Southern Deep Fried Lobster

Image
Southern Deep Fried Lobster Why is it that when we think of Southern Foods, we think deep-fried. Those Southern people will deep fry anything, right? Well, yes and no. Deep frying isn’t as much a regional thing as it is a poverty thing. The poor of the south might not have a fancy kitchen, but you can bet they have a skillet, a source of heat and plenty of lard. We can thank the slaves for Southern Fried Chicken. Otherwise, we might be sitting down to a boring, flavorless boiled chicken supper on Sundays. Here in America, we owe a debt of flavor gratitude to the influence slaves had on Southern Cooking. The Scots, Irish and English who settled in the south tended to shy away from the bolder seasonings of Africa. For whatever the reason, the minute we pair “Southern” and “Deep Fried” together it’s more than an acceptable form of cooking, it conjures up visions of deliciousness and gets our mouth to salivating. Deep fried fish. Deep fried chicken. Hush puppies. You get where this is goin...
